Papad Poha Recipe: A Crispy, Crunchy Delight!

Papad Poha is a fun and unique twist on the traditional poha. This fusion recipe combines the softness of poha (flattened rice) with the crunchiness of crispy papad, creating an exciting texture and flavor profile. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast or a light evening snack, this dish is perfect for any occasion. Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup poha (flattened rice)
  • 2-3 papads (you can use plain or spiced ones)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger (grated)
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon grated coconut (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Poha:
    • Rinse the poha in water briefly to soften it. Make sure it doesn’t become too soggy—just a quick rinse to remove excess starch is enough. Drain any excess water and set aside.
  2. Fry the Papads:
    • Heat a pan and roast or fry the papads until they become crispy and golden brown. You can do this by roasting them on an open flame or deep-frying them. Once done, break them into small pieces and set them aside.
  3. Temper the Spices:
    • Heat oil in a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter for a few seconds. Add the chopped green chili, onion, and ginger. Sauté until the onions turn soft and translucent.
  4. Add the Poha:
    • Now, add the turmeric powder and a pinch of asafoetida (hing) to the pan. Stir well to combine. Add the rinsed poha and mix everything gently so the poha gets evenly coated with the spices.
  5. Season and Mix:
    • Add salt to taste, along with sugar if you prefer a slight sweetness. Stir everything together and cook for a few minutes on medium heat.
  6. Combine with Papad:
    • Once the poha is well-cooked and flavored, turn off the heat. Gently mix in the crushed papad pieces. The papads should retain their crunchiness, giving the dish a delightful texture.
  7. Finish with Lemon and Garnish:
    • Squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the poha for a tangy kick. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and grated coconut, if using. Your Papad Poha is now ready to serve!

Tips for the Perfect Papad Poha:

  • You can experiment with different varieties of papad—plain, spicy, or even garlic-flavored—for a unique twist.
  • If you like a richer flavor, add a handful of peanuts or cashews for added crunch and taste.
  • For a more indulgent version, you can add a dollop of ghee or butter at the end of cooking.

Conclusion:

Papad Poha is a delightful dish that balances crunch with the soft comfort of poha. It’s quick, easy, and full of flavors that will leave your taste buds craving more. Try this fusion recipe today for a snack that’s anything but ordinary!
