‘We are constantly monitoring’, what did Health Minister JP Nadda say on the increasing cases of HMPV?

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has addressed public concerns regarding the recent detection of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in India. He emphasized that HMPV is not a new virus; it was first identified in 2001 and has been circulating globally for many years.

Minister Nadda assured the public that the health ministry, along with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), is closely monitoring the situation. He stated, “Our health systems and surveillance networks remain vigilant, ensuring the country is ready to respond promptly to any emerging health challenges. There is no reason to worry. We are closely monitoring the situation.”

He further explained that HMPV spreads through respiratory droplets and can affect individuals of all age groups. The virus is more prevalent during the winter and early spring months.

Minister Nadda also mentioned that the World Health Organization (WHO) is aware of the situation and will share its report with India shortly. He reassured the public that there is no cause for concern, as the health systems are prepared to handle any potential health challenges.
