Recent Cases in Maharashtra
In early January 2025, two children in Nagpur, Maharashtra, tested positive for HMPV. The patients, aged 7 and 13, were reported to have mild symptoms and are expected to recover fully.
Following these cases, the Pune district administration has taken proactive measures to address potential HMPV infections. District Collector Jitendra Dudi stated that necessary medical arrangements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being implemented to manage any future cases. He emphasized the importance of public awareness and preparedness, noting that while there is no immediate cause for concern, vigilance is essential.
Health Minister’s Advisory
Maharashtra’s Health Minister, Prakash Abitkar, convened an urgent meeting with health department officials to discuss the HMPV situation.Union Minister of State for Health, Prataprao Jadhav, also attended the meeting. Minister Abitkar urged the public not to panic, emphasizing that HMPV is not a new virus and that the state is prepared to handle any cases.

Health officials advise the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures, including regular handwashing, wearing masks, and maintaining social distancing, especially in crowded places.
